In-Depth Analysis of Core Performance of Fusible Light-Transmitting Belts (Skylights)

Release time:
Fusible light-transmitting belts (skylights) are constructed from a new type of synthetic resin material that integrates building daylighting with fire safety smoke exhaust functions. Their core performance is directly linked to the effectiveness of building fire safety protection and must strictly comply with fire codes and practical application requirements.

Their most critical performance is rapid fusible venting capability. According to China's GB51251-2017 "Technical Standard for Building Smoke Prevention and Exhaust Systems," fusible light-transmitting belts (skylights), serving as alternative facilities to automatic smoke exhaust skylights, must melt and form an effective smoke exhaust opening within 60 seconds—a mandatory indicator ensuring timely smoke removal from a fire scene. Taking a product like McWell's fusible light-transmitting belt as an example, in an environment of 120°C to 150°C, its perforation rate exceeds 80% within 1 minute without producing molten drips, fully meeting the fire safety requirement for "rapidly establishing a smoke exhaust passageway."

The GB51251-2017 standard explicitly stipulates that for Class C industrial buildings such as those for footwear or plastics manufacturing, when installing smoke exhaust systems, the area of fusible skylights on the roof must not be less than 5% to 10% of the floor area. This is a necessary facility for building fire safety compliance. It is crucial to be vigilant: using substandard products with melt-through times reaching several minutes or even tens of minutes will directly lead to delays in smoke exhaust at the fire scene, exacerbating casualties and property losses.

Furthermore, high-quality fusible light-transmitting belts (skylights) also possess essential practical performance characteristics, such as resistance to low temperatures down to -40°C, high-temperature resistance up to 75°C, and 99.99% UV resistance. These features not only meet daily daylighting needs but also allow adaptation to various extreme environments, making them a high-value building material that achieves the dual integration of "daylighting + fire safety."
