Procurement Quotation Pitfalls for Fusible Daylighting Belts (Skylights)

Release time:
In the procurement of fusible daylighting belts (skylights), many companies often fall into the trap of "selecting the lowest bid only," overlooking their core fire safety function—a negligence that can embed fatal safety hazards. As facilities replacing automatic smoke exhaust vents, the value of fusible daylighting belts extends far beyond mere "daylighting"; it lies in their ability to promptly form smoke exhaust openings during a fire. The performance differences behind quotations often mark the line between safety and danger.

National standard GB51251-2017 explicitly requires that automatic smoke exhaust vents must fully open within 60 seconds. As substitutes, fusible daylighting belts (windows) must similarly meet the requirement of melting through within 60 seconds. High-quality products, such as Mcwell's fusible daylighting panels, achieve a perforation rate exceeding 80% within one minute under 120°C–150°C conditions, fully complying with fire safety regulations. However, some low-cost products may take several minutes or longer to melt through. While seemingly reducing procurement costs, they become virtually useless when a fire strikes.

The dangers of the low-price trap extend far beyond this. If smoke exhaust openings fail to form promptly during a fire, smoke accumulation will intensify, leading to increased casualties and property damage. More critically, according to the Criminal Law, individuals responsible for using unqualified fusible daylighting windows that result in major casualty accidents may face criminal liability. The minimal savings during procurement could lead to unbearable legal consequences and safety costs.

When procuring fusible daylighting belts (windows), core metrics such as "60-second melt-through" and "perforation rate" should be treated as mandatory requirements, rather than simply comparing quotes. Focusing on product fire safety test reports and manufacturer qualifications is far more important than fixating on short-term price differences. After all, a qualified fusible daylighting belt (window) is exchanged for not just daylighting functionality, but also a "lifeline" in the event of a fire.
